about

"is anything alright", Paundy’s fifth album, marks the twentieth anniversary of a multi-instrumentalist collective in Kitsap County, WA, founded by grunge survivors Paul Burback and Andy Miller (Bell, Buddha’s Favorite Color, Foot of the Head, Cat from Dog Mountain).

Recorded, mixed, and engineered by Andy and Paul, "is anything alright" was mastered by Northwest luminary Chris Hanzsek (Deep Six compilation) and features guest contributions from former member Chad Channing (Nirvana) and new member Greg Strzempka (Raging Slab).

Like the rest of Paundy’s twenty-year back catalog, "is anything alright" intermixes genre— golden-age film & TV scores, ’70s rock, New Wave, electronica—fusing organic and inorganic sounds into explosively fun gems.

Toy piano, banjo, trumpet, and distant vocals haunt the moody alt-Western “Giant House on the Prairie.” The low-riding rumblers “Vlad the Enabler” and “Big Wheel” suggest disco-era spycraft; atomic surfside tune “Mr. Roper” pays homage to Three’s Company actor Norman Fell; and “Pura Vida” recalls the sweet spacious soundscape of a Costa Rica hostel.

The album, compiled during pandemic practice sessions on the outdoor stage of a forest speakeasy in Indianola, is a lush soundscape of soundtracks for unwritten movies: evocative, sincere goofball instrumentals perfect for radio dramas, vintage cocktail hours, and late-night stargazing.

Album personnel: Paul Burback, Andy Miller, Drew McCabe, Tony Dattilo
Guest musicians: Greg Strzempka, Chad Channing, Justine Jeanotte, Leif Utne, Anne Mathews, Steven Arntson
